A Portrait of the Author as an UNO Player who Seems More Insightful Than He Is Because His Friend Took a Nice Picture
Bits and Books is a website about libraries and technology (but you probably guessed that from the tagline at the top of the page).
I’m Rob, a librarian in his thirties working for a major urban public library system. I have worn numerous hats in my day–retail employee, IT guy, web designer–all of which have contributed to who and what I am today.
I love technology. I am an unabashed nerd, who revels in things like new versions of software and interesting uses of hardware. I am of the opinion that smart technology, well-designed and properly applied, can make libraries more relevant than ever. The posts here will largely be my thoughts on how I think libraries can be better used.
I am always interested in what you have to say, so you can always email me if you have a good idea or if you think I’m dead wrong about something.
I should also say that everything that is posted here is my own personal opinion and is definitely not the opinion of my employer or anyone else.
A small warning: I usually refrain from blue language in my posts, but I do reserve the right to use it occasionally, either in a blog post, a Twitter tweet or other content. You have been warned.
I also enjoy playing games of the board, video and computer varieties. I am an Assistant Organizer for the Chicago Board Games Meetup Group, though to be fair, the events I organize are usually for a monthly board games event at my library.
For video and computer games, you can find me on Steam as ThisMessIAmIn (where I like to play games like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and a few others) and on Xbox Live as Avanc. (I am partial to Halo 3 multiplayer, but I certainly wouldn’t call myself great.) You are, of course, free to add me as a friend if you’d like to; just please include a note telling me how you found out about me.
